Det-Tronics’ Efforts to Protect Aircraft Hangars

Det-Tronics see aircraft hangar wins continue to soar for fire safety systems

In recent months, Det-Tronics has added several wins to provide high performance, fire-safety systems for military, commercial and maintenance aircraft hangars across the globe. 2

Fire detection and protection systems are critical to safeguarding the contents of a hangar and the facility. A regional fixed base operator hangar might price out at $150,000 and a commercial jet airliner hangar might be worth a few million dollars, while commercial or military aircraft can cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

“For over 25 years, Det-Tronics has protected military and commercial hangars with its field-proven flame detectors and fire and gas safety systems. Our solutions and application expertise are recognized by the industry as critical to the protection of its high-value assets,” said Saif Siddiqui, managing director, Det-Tronics. Most recently, the company added orders to protect Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Air Force base contracts often cover multiple hangars and include flame detection for maintenance, paint and storage hangars.

While advanced Det-Tronics products are designed to detect heat or flames and actuate fire suppression systems in a range of environments, protecting aircraft hangars has a unique set of challenges:

  • Large detection areas
  • Giant doors that create variable conditions when opened
  • Winged aircraft creating obstacles
  • Radio-frequency interference from avionics in the area

To successfully provide aircraft hangar fire protection to deliver customers with what they need, Det-Tronics has identified six keys to essential planning design and implementation:

  • Detecting flame in addition to heat and smoke3
  • Placing flame detectors in the best locations
  • Rejecting false alarm signals
  • Adding system redundancy to validate detection
  • Speeding detection and decision making
  • Integrating fire and gas detection and suppression

Det-Tronics is the global leader in fire and gas safety systems, providing premium flame and gas detection and hazard mitigation systems for high-risk processes and industrial operations.

“BTU Measurement from Fuel Gas to Flare”
Are You Running Efficiently & In Compliance?

BTU measurement can be made in a variety of ways.  Ongoing regulations have forced producers to find new methods to make a quicker, more accurate measurement.  With low NOX burners in heaters, unpredictable fuel gas, and new upcoming regulations on flares, the BTU measurement is becoming a requirement to stay in compliance.
